The Ueno Clan has also served the Royal Hoshidan family for generations as retainers, and Sai grew up expecting to enter that roll someday- but that day never came. Instead, his little brother Hinata was given the role of retainer to Prince Takumi. Stifled at being part of a line of retainers without any proper royals to serve, Sai searched for information on companies he could help out. That's how he found out about the Grenici Merchantry.
He convinces his parents on joining the Merchantry by telling them he wanted more life experience before becoming a proper retainer- much to the surprise of Hinata, who expected his parents to get mad at him for not following tradition, as well as thinking Sai was crazy for it. Joining the Merchantry, Sai was paired up with a Chevois by the name of Asher, and quickly a friendship bloomed between them. Two years later, a member of the Suou Clan, Tatsuya, joined the duo.
Being the oldest of the trio and an older brother himself, Sai tends to treat Asher and Tatsuya like younger siblings; making sure they're healthy and in a good mood, while also ready to tease them over something silly. He's among the first to notice the growing relationship between Asher and Tatsuya, helping them figure out their feelings. As for him, he's not exactly looking for love right now.
