Why choosing the name?: It's unisex in both Japanese and German! Also, going by the Japanese pronunciation as a "he couldn't say his name in the Nohrian way, so the Hoshidan way stuck". Clarkenstein is one of the wings of Castle Krakenburg, and Saitou just fitted right with the Hoshidan Royal family.

Corrin vs Michi
The major difference between the two is the animosity Michi holds for King Garon. While Corrin started out wanting to please the man he thought was his father, Michi wants nothing to do with him or his retainers. While considered a 'bleeding heart', Michi has no time for people who has proven themselves to be nonredeemable (looking at you, Hans, Iago, Garon and Kotaro).
Michi also tends to be more overwhelmed by new information, needing more time than Corrin to process them. This results in Michi going berserk in the Chapter 6 confrontation and changing the Revelation plot quite a bit. (Granted, that's to be expected when you add some worldbuilding to Fates in general.)
Starting out like his canon counterpart, Michi isn't the best cook around... but like his female counterpart, is an excellent baker, and soon learns how to cook meals that are easy for him to get it right.

Katsuya is just as awesome as his brother, and I wanted to explore him in a world where he can be happy with his family as he always dreamed- except with some potholes, because some parts of Persona 2 are perfect for plotting. (I AM SORRY I KEPT THE WHOLE 'TATSUYA GETS STABBED AT EIGHT YEARS OLD', KATSUYA!)
His life started out in the capital of Hoshido like any ordinary Hoshidans, even after the birth of his little brother- until his family started a nomadic life that was difficult for them. For Tatsuya, it was his hardship of fitting in, while for Katsuya, it was taking care of his brother and helping his family while training. It all came to a head once Tatsuya got stabbed, in which Katsuya decided not to become a retainer, but rather follow in Yukimura's footsteps. (Thought he does accidentally end up playing the role of retainer to Princess Azura, but that wasn't made official.)
Near the end of the Suou family's nomadic life, one of their posts was a small town in Izumo, where he discovered a kinshi egg, which soon hatched into Helios. Izumite kinshi tends to be a golden color compared to their Hoshidan counterparts, as well as a bigger size that can handle taller-than-average Hoshidans. Helios, once old enough, became Katsuya's mount as he became a Kinshi Knight.
It was a little hard for Katsuya to adjust not having Tatsuya around when the latter left for the Grenici Merchantry, having him as part of his life for 16 years, but Tatsuya was able to visit him frequently thanks to being the master to a Spirit Guardian. Of course, once Katsuya discovered that his little brother fell in love with Asher, he quickly got into the role of being a good brother-in-law for the young man.

The middle child of House Priddy, Melanie and her family moved from Valla to Nestra in hopes of finding aid to stop Anankos' madness, but they quickly become aware of the curse through the help of the Spirit Guardian of Music and Fragment of the Dusk Dragon, Aoide. With no way to help their people, House Priddy was stuck in Cyrkensia, and with no way to regain access to Valla, they started to find work. With her musical talents, little Melanie soon became one of the crown jewels of the Opera House as the Singing Storyteller. Because of this, she becomes the Mistress of Aoide as a result.
Melanie met her future wife, Rhea, while helping out the local healers and midwives one day. It wasn't exactly love at first sight, but they quickly became friends, only to start dating a year later. At the age of 20, they wed, and with the help of special hexes, ended up with a boy, Lionel, and a girl, Margaret.
Melanie met another Master, a young Hoshidan by the name of Tatsuya, when the latter offered his aid to Rhea during one of her midwife trips. Amazed by his kind heart and unusual knowledge, she quickly befriends him and his friends, Sai and Asher, and offers her sponsorship to the Merchantry as a whole.
Another title given to Melanie is "The Witch of Happiness", due to the unusual power her singing demonstrates, usually for the good of Cyrkensia and Nestra as a whole. Tatsuya is Apollo's Master, a human chosen to assist a Spirit with the changes in the surface world.

Albeit he is friends with the Royal Family, his constant travels means he mostly converse with letters to them, and his connection with them is what caused him to be stabbed at the age of eight. Tired of his nomadic life and lack of friends, at the age of 16, he decided to join the Merchantry.
With his kind heart and quick adjustment to a foreign culture, Tatsuya easily made friends among the Merchantry, but his closest ones were Sai and Asher, his teachers of the Merchantry. Tatsuya bloomed from an anxious youth to a charming young man that people wants to hang out with... which certainly didn't escape Asher, who falls head over heals over his former protége.
However, not all of his insecurities have vanished. The trauma of being stabbed still lingers, and that is why Michi and Tatsuya meets; a group of semi-invisible warriors attacked and swarmed Apollo's Deeprealm Delphi, and the amount of warriors led Tatsuya to a panic attack. Thankfully, Michi and his family drove the warriors away, gaining the trust of the Merchantry Trio.
Tatsuya's admiration of Asher slowly ended up being an actual crush that Tatsuya was shy to talk about... until Inoue Masaru noticed the close relationship between the two, calling Asher Tatsuya' boyfriend. A talk later, both Asher and Tatsuya decided that yes, they are boyfriends, taking their relationship to the next level.

In fact, he has developed a fascination with Hoshido and its culture through them and the other Hoshidan members of the Merchantry. Anytime there's a Hoshidan meal in the works, he's practically the first to grab his share.
Asher can get butting heads with his friends, however, because of that loyalty- especially Tatsuya, who started out in the Merchantry as an anxious, friendless lad. That's because he'll follows his country's traditions over considering his friends' feelings over certain situations. Thankfully, his friends can stop him before he does a drastic action.
Asher holds a massive crush on Tatsuya since he realized the then 18 years old had grown into quite the handsome man, as well as showing the caring, pleasant person underneath the shell he's been shedding. This is not overlooked, as his other friends will tease him endlessly over his feelings with Tatsuya, coming to a head when Masaru Inoue, after being 'rescued' from Kotaro of Mokushu, recognized the close relationship the two had by calling Asher Tatsuya's boyfriend... to which Tatsuya and Asher accept after a good talk about Masaru's situation.
